I consider myself pretty lucky. As a kid I enjoyed drawing, painting and music – hobbies for which my parents paid my lessons. Those weekend visits to my Grandparents connected me with their player piano and I will never forget how my interest would kindle with grandmother’s generous praise. My father was good at woodworking and I loved to try and copy him. At 21, I moved to Toronto and found my way to a college course in sign painting. This career was real work that occupied me for 35 years. However, in the late 90’s, with new technologies and hand lettering becoming unviable, I was faced with a career change. I chose multi media as another creative approach and later met Isabelle Muracco, a recreationist at a local residence. She invited me to visit and play piano regularly. The service is ongoing. ©James Kershaw2010 |
